Pastor Alvin Love Recipient of the Prophetic Leadership Award
In the frigid temperature of one degree on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 8:00 a.m., members of the Lilydale First Baptist Church attended the Arise Chicago Faith ~ Labor ~ Action Breakfast hosted by the Plumbers Union, Operating Engineers, Local 399, of Chicago, IL.
To get us out of the house in such brutal cold weather and to do so, so early in the morning was to show our appreciation of, and to be included in the ceremony where Pastor Alvin Love would be receiving the Prophetic Leadership Award for his community work and invaluable contribution to the struggle for justice. He was the only clergyman to receive such an award.
Reverend John Thomas, Chicago Theological Seminary and Arise Chicago Board of Directors presented the award to Pastor Love. In his presentation, Reverend Thomas highlighted Pastor’s humble beginnings with the then, community activist to the now President of these United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama; and of Pastor’s zealous efforts for justice for educators, and for equal opportunity (resources) for students attending neighborhood schools.
Pastor Love accepted his award with a servant’s heart. Although, I must say that there was some swagger in his walk up to the podium. Some might even say that he has the Denzell Washington’s walk. Pastor thanked the Arise Chicago Organization for bestowing such an honor upon him. He stated, “When you work from ground up and put your heart and soul into it, you can make the city a better place.”
It was so sobering to see photos of Pastor Love revolving on the big screens throughout the banquet hall. When one of our church congregants brought it to our attention, we were amazed. Pastor Love was bewildered! He didn’t know that Arise Chicago had them.
Joining us at our breakfast table were Reverend C.J. Hawking, Executive Director of Arise Chicago, and Ms. Lisa Parker, NBC Target 5 Consumer Investigator Unit Reporter who served as Arise Chicago Master of Ceremonies. Being honored with Ms. Parker’s presence at our table, help made it that more entertaining. She is such a delightful person and a classic news reporter. No wonder Ms. Parker has garnered 13 Midwest Emmys, to name a few of her accomplishments.
Another testament of Pastor Alvin Love’s community work is with the City of Chicago recognizing his worth and naming our church address of 649 West 113th Street to, The Honorary Reverend Dr. Alvin Love’s Way. The sign was unveiled during the climax of our church celebrating and honoring Pastor Love for 30 years of pastoral service, Sunday, November 24, 2013.
Our Pastor, The Reverend Dr. Alvin Love, who has an unshakable confidence in the infallible, inerrant truth with an unadulterated verbal use of the Holy Scripture, is someone that the Lilydale First Baptist Church family is very proud of, and blessed to have as pastor.

                                                             To God Be the Glory!
