God Establishes a Faithful People: Genesis
Institute Review from December 2011
Biblical Institute in the Book of Genesis
Pastor Alvin Love convened the monthly Biblical Institute on Saturday, December 3rd. Rev. Love led the students through an examination of Abram and his descendant’s relationship with God and His covenant with Abram. Rev Love said, “Faithfulness does not always mean knowing and it does not always mean doing. God is building us into a faithful people. Just because God calls us does not mean that we are suddenly perfected in faith.” Likewise even though Abram was a man of faith, there is no evidence in the Bible that he was a perfect man. Still God chose Him and was able to use him.
Rev Love defined covenants as agreements usually made by two co-equals. God’s covenants with man are different. Rev. Love likened them to suzerainty treaties. These agreements take the form of “If you do this, then I will do that.” God seals these legal relationships. As such, God establishes legal relationships that lead to faithful relationships. We must trust that He who has begun a good work in us will complete it.
